Update From Your FTOs

As a full-time officer team, we have heard the feedback from students regarding the issues facing in-person exams. Your feedback is extremely important to us, and we appreciate all those who have stepped forward to let us know their experiences. As a team we have been amid discussions with key members of the University regarding this topic.

Our education officer, Carys, and our President, Katie, attended the Learning and Teaching Operations group today, where they discussed in-person examinations and the issues facing students. They raised the topics brought forward by students, including advocating for online-only examinations and for deferral examinations for those who have missed their in-person exams to be moved to May/June, so that students’ educations aren’t disrupted. The issues surrounding COVID-19 safety were also discussed, where students feedback was raised by our officers.

The outcome of the meeting was extremely disappointing to us, the decision was taken by the University to not change their position on in-person exams and to not move deferral exams to May/June despite opposition from our officers. We will continue this conversation with the University and continue to advocate for this issue to be resolved. We are attending a meeting with the Senior Leadership Team next week, in addition to the Student Partnership and Engagement committee, where this will remain the main agenda item, and we as officers will continue to advocate for student voices.

We hope to resolve the issues as soon as possible, and that the University will change their position, as we strongly disagree with the decision made. We will keep you all updated with any progress but continue to welcome feedback from students, if there is anything you’d like us to relay to the University, please get in touch at fto@swansea-union.co.uk.

Our Advice and Support Centre is available to offer assistance to anyone who may need it during this exam period. They can be reached via advice@swansea-union.co.uk.

Fel tîm swyddogion llawn amser, rydym wedi clywed adborth gan fyfyrwyr ynglyn â materion sy'n gwynebu arholiadau mewn person. Mae eich adborth yn hynod o bwysig i ni, ac rydym yn gwerthfawrogi pawb sydd wedi camu ymlaen i lleisio eu profiadau. Fel tîm rydym wedi bod yng nghanol trafodaethau gydag aelodau allweddol o'r Brifysgol ar y pwnc hwn.

Roedd ein Swyddog Addysg, Carys, a’n Llywydd, Katie, yn bresennol yn y grwp ‘Learning and Teaching Operations’ heddiw, lle buont yn trafod arholiadau mewn person a’r materion sy’n gwynebu myfyrwyr. Codwyd y pynciau a gyflwynwyd ganddynt gan fyfyrwyr, gan gynnwys eirioli

dros cynnal arholiadau ar-lein yn unig ac symud arholiadau gohiredig ar gyfer y rhai sydd wedi methu eu harholiadau mewn person i fis Mai/Mehefin, fel nad amharir ar addysg myfyrwyr. Trafodwyd y materion yn ymwneud â diogelwch COVID-19 hefyd, lle codwyd ein swyddogion adborth myfyrwyr.

Roedd canlyniad y cyfarfod hwn yn hynod siomedig i ni, gan penderfynwyd y Brifysgol i beidio â newid eu safbwynt ar arholiadau mewn person ac i beidio symud arholiadau gohiredig I fis Mai/Mehefin er gwaethaf gwrthwynebiad ein swyddogion. Byddwn yn parhau â'r sgwrs hon gyda'r Brifysgol, ac yn parhau i eirioli dros ddatrys y mater hwn. Rydym yn mynychu cyfarfod gyda’r Uwch Dîm Arwain wythnos nesaf, yn ogystal â’r pwyllgor ‘Student Partnership and Engagement’, lle bydd y materion yn parhau i fod yn brif eitem ar yr agenda, a byddwn ni fel swyddogion yn parhau i eirioli dros lleisiau myfyrwyr.

Byddwn yn parhau i weithio i ddatrys y materion hyn cyn gynted â phosibl, mewn gobaith fydd y Brifysgol yn newid eu safbwynt, gan ein bod yn anghytuno’n gryf â’r penderfyniad a wnaed. Byddwn yn rhoi'r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf i chi i gyd am unrhyw welliannau, a mi fyddwn yn parhau i groesawu adborth gan fyfyrwyr. Os oes unrhyw beth yr hoffech i ni ei drosglwyddo i'r Brifysgol, cysylltwch â fto@swansea-union.co.uk.

Mae ein Canolfan Cyngor a Chymorth ar gael i gynnig cymorth i unrhyw un a allai fod ei angen yn ystod y cyfnod arholiadau hwn ac yn ystod gweddill y flwyddyn academaidd. Gellir eu cyrraedd trwy advice@swansea-union.co.uk.

Llofnodwyd,
