We're One of the Most Vegan-Friendly Unis in the UK!

We are thrilled to be listed by PETA as one of the most vegan-friendly universities in the UK!

We are thrilled to be listed by PETA as one of the most vegan-friendly universities in the UK!

We recognised a growing number of students coming to Swansea that led a plant-based lifestyle could struggle to get the range of options for food on campus to suit their dietary needs.

In response we opened Root to offer a wider range of vegetarian and vegan food and products. Since then it has proved to be a great addition to our campus community, with its popularity leading to the opening of Zoot Zero. Where we offer vegan and waste-free products such as pasta, loose-leaf tea, shampoo, and laundry detergent.

We’re also proud to offer dairy-free milk at no extra cost in our venues, JCs and Tafarn Tawe.

This January, we are running our first Veganuary campaign to encourage students to try out a plant-based diet for the month. We’re teaming up with PETA and Viva! to put on some talks and sessions, and we’ll be sharing recipes and tips from students on staff.

Your Welsh Affairs Officer, Katie Phillips who has been organising the campaign said “I'm glad to see Swansea University and Students' Union being recognised by PETA for our achievements in catering to a vegan lifestyle. It proves that we are ethically and environmentally conscious and cater to different diets and lifestyles. I'm proud to be working on the SU's first-ever Veganuary campaign, opening up an intersectional discussion on veganism with an exciting line up of virtual events!”

Your Societies and Services Officer, Georgia-Rose, who has also been organising the campaign said “It’s an incredible achievement to have Swansea University and its Students’ Union recognised for being Vegan friendly. We aim to create the most inclusive environment for all of our students, by introducing Root – our Vegan and Vegetarian Food Store alongside our Zero Waste Shop, we have shown and encouraged students and staff that switching to a plant based diet and lifestyle is a lot easier and more accessible than people first think.”

Rydyn ni wrth ein boddau i gael ein rhestru gan PETA fel un o'r prifysgolion mwyaf cyfeillgar i figanwyr yn y DU!

Cydnabyddon ni y gallai nifer cynyddol o fyfyrwyr yn Abertawe sy'n bwyta diet sy'n seiliedig ar blanhigion ei chael hi'n anodd cael yr ystod o opsiynau ar gyfer bwyd ar y campws i weddu i'w hanghenion dietegol.

Mewn ymateb, agoron ni Root i gynnig ystod ehangach o fwyd a chynhyrchion llysieuol a fegan. Ers hynny mae wedi profi i fod yn ychwanegiad gwych i'n cymuned ar y campws, gyda'i boblogrwydd yn arwain at agor Root Zero. Yma, rydyn ni'n cynnig cynhyrchion fegan a diwastraff fel pasta, te dail rhydd, siampw, a glanedydd golchi dillad.

Rydyn ni hefyd yn falch o gynnig opsiynau di-laeth heb unrhyw gost ychwanegol yn ein siopau coffi, JCs a Tafarn Tawe.

Dros fis Ionawr, rydyn ni'n cynnal ein hymgyrch Veganuary gyntaf i annog myfyrwyr i roi cynnig ar ddeiet sy'n seiliedig ar blanhigion am y mis. Rydyn ni'n ymuno â PETA a Viva! i gynnal sgyrsiau a sesiynau, a byddwn yn rhannu ryseitiau ac awgrymiadau gan fyfyrwyr ar staff.

Dywedodd eich Swyddog Materion Cymraeg, Katie Phillips, sydd wedi bod yn trefnu’r ymgyrch, “Rwy’n falch o weld Prifysgol Abertawe ac Undeb y Myfyrwyr yn cael eu cydnabod gan PETA am ein cyflawniadau wrth ddarparu at ffordd o fyw fegan. Mae'n dangos ein bod yn ymwybodol yn foesegol ac yn amgylcheddol, ac yn darparu ar gyfer gwahanol ddeietau a ffyrdd o fyw. Rwy'n falch fy mod i'n gweithio ar ymgyrch Veganuary gyntaf erioed UM, gan agor trafodaeth groestoriadol ar feganiaeth gyda rhestr gyffrous o ddigwyddiadau rhithwir!”

Dywedodd eich Swyddog Cymdeithasau a Gwasanaethau, Georiga-Rose Gleeson, sydd wedi hefyd bod yn trefnu’r ymgyrch, “Mae'n gyflawniad anhygoel i Brifysgol Abertawe a'i Undeb Myfyrwyr gael eu cydnabod am fod yn gyfeillgar i feganwyr. Ein nod yw creu'r amgylchedd mwyaf cynhwysol i'n holl fyfyrwyr, trwy gyflwyno Root - ein siop fwyd fegan a llysieuol â'n Siop Di-wastraff, rydyn ni wedi dangos ac annog myfyrwyr a staff bod newid i ddeiet a ffordd o fyw sy'n seiliedig ar blanhigion llawer yn haws ac yn fwy hygyrch nag y mae pobl yn ei feddwl yn gyntaf.”
