Objectives

The goal of Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen is to celebrate Welsh culture, language, and values through an inclusive and student-focused recognition of Wales’ day of love and friendship. The activity aims to provide a culturally meaningful alternative to mainstream celebrations, while encouraging participation from Welsh speakers, learners, and those engaging with Welsh culture for the first time.

Event Concept Development: Develop a bilingual celebration centred on Welsh cultural identity, connection, and community.

Student Engagement Activities: Explore student-friendly activities such as themed stalls, social media content, and small-scale campus engagement.

Partnership Working: Identify opportunities to collaborate with Welsh societies and relevant partners to support delivery.

Welsh-Language Visibility: Ensure Welsh language and cultural symbolism are visible throughout any activity or campaign.

Student Engagement: Participation and interest from students across different levels of Welsh language confidence.

Cultural Visibility: Increased visibility of Welsh cultural celebration on campus.

Progress to Date – Completed (Semester 2 - Winter Term)

A Santes Dwynwen event was successfully delivered, centred around a free love spoon workshop celebrating Welsh culture and traditions.

Over 20 students attended, engaging in a hands-on activity that promoted Welsh heritage, creativity, and social connection in an inclusive environment.

The event achieved positive engagement and increased visibility of Welsh cultural celebration on campus, particularly among students exploring Welsh culture for the first time.
