Objectives

The goal of the Wales vs England | Six Nations Super Saturday Fanzone is to deliver Swansea University’s largest student-only rugby viewing event, celebrating Welsh sporting culture while creating a high-energy, inclusive social experience. The event aims to bring students together through sport, strengthen community engagement, and showcase the Students’ Union’s role in delivering large-scale, safe, and memorable sporting events.

The fanzone is designed to appeal to both dedicated rugby fans and casual spectators, reinforcing sport as a key driver of student connection and Welsh identity on campus.

Planned Actions

Ticketing and Promotion: Launch full ticket sales with targeted promotion through Students’ Union channels and social media, including early-bird pricing to drive early engagement and monitor uptake.

Venue and Logistics Coordination: Confirm room allocations across three Singleton Campus venues, alongside technical setup for large screens, audio, and signage, ensuring full health and safety compliance.

Event Experience and Atmosphere: Prepare custom “TRY” signs, prize giveaways, face painting, and branded decorations to create a distinctive and immersive fanzone experience.

Entertainment Delivery: Coordinate a live DJ during the games and deliver XL karaoke following the matches to extend engagement beyond the live screening.

Food and Beverage Management: Finalise the cheap drinks offer and coordinate bar management to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and well-managed student event.

Evaluation and Review: Collect post-event feedback to assess attendance, engagement, and opportunities for improvement for future large-scale sporting events.

Measures of Success

Attendance and Reach: Achieving strong ticket sales and attendance, with a target of up to 500 students.

Event Engagement: High levels of participation in interactive elements such as karaoke, prize giveaways, and fan activities.

Event Delivery and Safety: Smooth coordination across multiple venues with positive feedback on organisation and safety.

Student Feedback: Positive post-event feedback reflecting enjoyment, inclusivity, and community atmosphere.

Progress to Date – In Progress (End of Term 1)

  • Developed the event concept as Swansea University’s largest student-only rugby fanzone, celebrating Welsh sporting culture and student community.

  • Date confirmed: Saturday 7 February 2026, with activities hosted across three venues on Singleton Campus.

  • Core features planned, including a large viewing screen, live DJ, XL karaoke after the games, cheap drinks, custom TRY signs, prize giveaways, and face painting.

  • Early ticketing plan established, targeting a total attendance of 500 students.

  • Initial logistics scoping underway to coordinate multiple venues, staffing, and student safety.

  • Identified strong opportunities for student engagement and delivery of a high-energy, inclusive sporting atmosphere.
