Swansea University Motorsport Club – President’s Address 2025
Welcome to Swansea University Motorsport Club – the fastest, most exciting, and (let’s be honest) greatest sports club on campus! Whether you’ve got years of racing experience, play way too much Mario Kart, or just love the sound of engines and the thrill of speed, you’ve come to the right place.
This year we’ve got a packed calendar of racing, socials, and all things motorsport. Our very own Swansea University Karting Championship is back – bigger and better – and now hosted at Kart Kingdom! We’ll be kicking things off with the Fresher’s Plate at Kart Kingdom before heading into a multi-round championship across South Wales at a discounted price. You can race as much or as little as you like, but trust us, once you’ve done one round, you’ll be hooked.
On top of that, we’re hitting the track in the British Universities Karting Championship (BUKC) once again, with trials in October. Fancy representing Swansea in the most competitive uni karting series in the country? This is your chance. And to round off the year in style, we’ll be entering the legendary BUKC 24 Hour at Teesside – the ultimate student endurance race and a brilliant way to cap off the season.
For those into esports, this year we’re stepping things up. Alongside our partnership with SimRace1, we’re proud to be teaming up with the Realistic Performance League, where we’ll be racing on Le Mans Ultimate every Sunday at 7pm. Whether you’re a seasoned sim racer or just fancy giving it a go, it’s the perfect way to get involved.
If spectating is more your style, we’ll also be heading out to watch real-world racing. Last year we went to the opening round of the British GT Championship at Donington Park – an incredible weekend – and we’re aiming to do the same again this year.
And of course, what would SUMC be without socials? Every Wednesday we’ll be at our home pub, The Mill, hosting F1 watchalongs, themed socials (yes, including Mario Kart Night and our own twist on pub golf), and gearing up for Wind Street. For F1 weekends, we’ll also be running all-day race marathons, with discounted drinks, an F1 Fantasy League, and prizes for the top scorers.
So whether you’re here to race, watch, or just enjoy a pint with fellow petrolheads, we’ve got something for you.
