President Officer
Having just come from a meeting in the University I’m happy to announce that we have reached an agreement with the University for us to receive additional funding for Academic Societies.
The funding will be open to Academic Societies that add the committee post of ‘Employability Champion’ to their repertoire for the 2014/15 year. The University will be providing up to £100 for each society with the new committee position into an Academic Grant account. The new post will receive additional training from the careers department and have the responsibility of promoting employability events to their society’s members.
Each employability champion will then also be able to apply for the grant funding to go towards events and trips that will improve the employability of their members. For example the recent Academic Societies trip to London, organise by the Academic Societies Representative Charlotte West would have received funding from the grant budget!
This is a fantastic move forward in getting societies recognised as the huge asset they are to the Union and University. The champions will provide a huge benefit to the society members and incorporate employability into a social realm. As society members you’ll receive up to date information tailored to your subject area about opportunities that will help you get on the job ladder and pursue your dream career!
